Everything you know about time management is wrong!

We have more gadgets and gizmos to keep us on track than ever before, yet people are more behind, overwhelmed, and stressed than any other time in history.  Why is this?

With all this technology made to keep us on track why can’t we do everything? We should be able to do EVERYTHING we want in a day!

When it comes down to it, it all boils down to TIME MANAGEMENT!

However, all this crap in the name of organization ends up stealing our time.

Think about the last 10 apps you download on your phone to be more productive. Chances are you either:

  1. Don’t open them up because Candy Crush stops you before you can get to those apps
  2. You end up creating fun lists or pinning to your inspirational boards and forget about them when you put down your phone.

So how do we do it? How do we get everything we want to get done accomplished in a day?

Our lists get in the way, our social media gets in the way, and everything we are not “connected” to pull us away, people pull us in all directions.

What’s the key to getting everything that’s in your mind done today?

Where do you start?

  1. Give Yourself Permission:

The first lesson I have for you today to start being able to get everything you want to accomplish done is probably the most important.

You can wait for someone to tell you it’s time, you can wait for someone to say your “qualified” or be waiting for that “sign” to start.

This is your “SIGN”

It’s time to start!

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION! Until you decide there is no time like the present and you choose to do what you really want for yourself, everyone else’s permission is never going to matter.

You have to care enough to make the time.

Until you do that, until you decide that you are worth it and give yourself the permission you have been looking outside of yourself for, nothing else is going to get done.

  1. Understand How You Operate:

I recently discovered the most powerful tool I have found when it comes to personal development by a woman named Gretchen Rubin. She wrote a book called “The 4 Tendencies and has a 4 Tendencies Quiz.

This is basically a discovery of self, on how you take in information, and how you process knowledge and what is expected of you through society, yourself, your family member and friends. You can fall into 4 simple categories and it will shed light on how your brain operates in a whole new way. By learning this about yourself you can quickly identify when that trait is flaring up and getting in your way, OR you can structure your life to best suit your needs and the way your own brain works.

When I found out I was a Rebel my entire life changed. It was so freeing to know that I am who I am, and I don’t have to change it! I could embrace myself on a whole new level and structure the way I handle my day around ‘ME’!

You can figure out who you are, lean into it, accept it as your truth, research it, and ask yourself how you can use it to get something awesome done in your life. You can play with your strengths rather than your weaknesses, then you are golden! This is a truly powerful tool!

  1. Find “Me” Time:

Most people tell you how to become a morning person, or why it is good to become a morning person. No one wants to hear that! No one wants to become a morning person. So today I am here to tell you to drop that concept and become a “ME TIME PERSON”!

The reason the most successful people are preaching the ‘Morning Person’ concept is because those morning hours are when you are truly at your best, most creative, positive self. That time for you doesn’t have to be in the morning!

When was the last time you had time just for you?

You may not even be able to remember the last time you had time that you spent completely alone or doing something completely for yourself. This is truly unfortunate and unhealthy.  Taking the time to be with yourself and your own thoughts can be an eye opening and healing experience!

So instead of thinking of becoming a morning person, rearrange your schedule and find those precious hours in the day when you aren’t going to be pulled or distracted away from your own personal alone time, the time that is all yours.

This will give you the mental clarity to be able to start getting things done!

  1. Track How You Spend Your Time (time blocking):

There are calendars everywhere, free ones, electronic ones, elaborate ones, kitchen hanging ones, pocket ones, purse ones, journal ones. You name it, they have it. You can spend a little money, a lot of money, or no money at all, whatever it is that floats your boat:

Get yourself a calendar and start filling it!

It doesn’t matter what you do in the day; put it on your calendar. Even if it is watching TV; put in in a calendar slot. Give yourself permission to do nothing at times. This will actually make your productive times more effective because you’ll have a clear focus on what you are doing at all times!

Schedule your time!

When you have a visual of everything that is taking precedence you will begin to see where things can be eliminated or combined to create time for things that there wasn’t time for before. This isn’t messing around on your phone time, this is productive time.

This is scheduling 10 minutes to clean the bathroom, 15 minutes to write a thank-you note, 20 minutes for dinner prep so you have a healthy meal ready to go at 6 p.m. Then actually take the time to accomplish that thing you scheduled.

Finally, but far from the least of all these points,

  1. Prioritize:

I want you to start prioritizing.

Most of the time we throw the simple words “I don’t have time for that”

Let me just say, I don’t have time to dust my fans. But if you were to offer me a $100,000 to get all my fans dusted, they would be done pretty darn fast!!

We all have time for everything that we need, want and desire to get done. It’s just a matter of priority!

There IS time for EVERYTHING

We just don’t view certain things as important enough to get done. They don’t take precedence. Look at your to-do list and prioritize everything on it! This way you know what is most important and what needs the most attention.

By making a list of the things we need to accomplish, the things that have to get done, and the things that would be nice to achieve and specifying which one falls into which category we not only relieve ourselves of the duty of successfully finishing our to-do list today, but we narrow down the things that should get done vs. the things we would like to get done but don’t really feel like doing.

This may seem like a lot of things extra to do for someone who has no time. But this is just the building bricks of how to spend your time better. We all have the same amount of time. The difference lies in how we spend it.

To summarize I have your list of 5 things to get Everything You Want Done Today:

  • Give Yourself Permission

  • Understand How Your Operate

  • Find ‘ME TIME’

  • Track How You Spend Your Time

  • Prioritize

Breaking down the task of getting more time makes you more aware of it. We should be able to do EVERYTHING we want in a day! When it comes down to it, it all boils down to TIME MANAGEMENT! It’s about what you focus on and make a priority in your life. Good luck!

I wish you all the success and happiness in your daily life!
