Stress creeps in on the best of us. I truly hate the days I feel stressed. I usually wake up feeling different. Moody. And for me at least, there doesn’t seems to be an easy way to beat daily stress!
Stressful days seem to kind of spiral out of control, until we find ourselves on the couch with a warm washcloth over our eyes and popping a painkiller or two.

• For me I usually get annoyed at the information out there for de-stressing. I don’t have the time or willpower to exercise for 30 minutes a day.

• I either don’t have the ingredients or truly don’t want to eat all the bland and boring health food they suggest.

• And it is NEVER quiet long enough here for me to meditate! (if it is where you are, this is a great practice!)

I decided to create a list of things I truly enjoy that make me happy, and feel BETTER! Things I can apply right now, things that make me take a deep breath and remember everything is okay!

These are my quick and easy ways to relieve stress in my life!

I hope these help you too!

Tea: Tea is very beneficial and healing. It helps to reduce stress and anxiety and a bonus is that is promotes weight loss and appetite control!!

relieve stress

Lavender Lemonade: I know this goes under the category of “not having the ingredients in the cupboard” but bear with me. I too did not have the ingredients necessary for this recipe when I first found it. However, I made it a point to get them, and KEEP them on hand! This beautiful, elegant, lovely, treat is not only a calming experience for the eyes, but the taste buds as well. The lavender is proven to de-stress and relax the most tense muscles in your body. This is one to keep cool in the fridge!

relieve stress

Berries: Especially blueberries are rich in antioxidants and chalk full of vitamin C, which aids in the repairing of damaged cells due to stress. Get your hands on some fresh or even dried berries and treat yourself to a little break.

Blueberries help relieve stress
Cashews: Being a salty and crunchy snack they also help with cravings. However, cashews are high in zinc. Studies have been linked to low levels of zinc causing anxiety and depression. Keeping these little morsels on hand is a good idea.

relieve stress
Dark Chocolate: A bar of dark chocolate is really what does it for me! Mind you it has to be quality dark chocolate, full of all the antioxidants and blood pressure lowering qualities! relieve stress

My personal little tip: create your own little trail mix with these 3 ingredients for a quick grab n’ go stress reducing snack.

Evaluate: We will in a world of habits. We can create and change them, or be enslaved to them. It is always good to evaluate what habits are serving you and which are causing you more stress.

the power of prioritizing your scheduleto relieve stress

Time Blocking: By placing time around the things we need to get done, we make sure to not allow the world to pull us in all different directions. We also create a cushion around our time tables that allow for unfortunate events, like traffic or the like. This can also be related to finances, having an emergency fund helps elevated the possible catastrophic events that will come up.

The Art of Saying “NO”: This is generally the foundation to our stresses. Most people have a hard time with telling people NO. Either because they don’t know how to do it nicely so they just don’t, or they are afraid to let someone down. I used to be this person. I was always afraid to disappoint someone, or that they wouldn’t think highly of me if I said I couldn’t do something for them. So I would stress myself and my family out so badly. I have come to learn that most people don’t really bat an eye when you tell them you can’t do something. The less information you give the better. A simple, “that actually won’t work for me, can I get back to you with some dates and times it will work better?” works absolute wonders! Learning how to say no gracefully and taking care of yourself and the things that you need done will elevate stress levels drastically.

Deep Breath Exercise: Like I mentioned before I don’t like to work out for 30 minutes at a time, and it is NEVER quite here long enough to get through even a short 15-minute meditation with my 5 small fries! 😊 But that doesn’t mean that both of those things aren’t EXTREMELY beneficial to relieving stress. So I made my own version of both! Combined! I call it my MOMENT!

relieve stress
I take 5 deeps breaths in and out and stretch. I get away from whatever it is I’m doing and close my eyes and calm my mind and body by breathing deeply. Then I stand up and stretch. Bend down and touch my toes and bend from side to side. Getting the blood rushing into all my muscles and especially my brain. This clears my mind and helps me remember that everything is truly okay!

This is the  list of things I do (sometimes multiple times a day) that truly help me relieve stress and find my happiness again! Those days are real. And they are hard.

It is no surprise if you have been around here at all that I have a thing for coffee!!  I have a love affair with my coffee. It’s my me time, it’s my personal moment. When all the world is pulling and pushing and demanding every second of every day from me it is the 10 minutes I get to breathe deeply, center my mind and just be. It is my Fika!

There is nothing like the smell of a fresh brew. The first couple sips of the hot velvety liquid hitting your lips and tongue. There is nothing like that personal silent moment of adoration as the steam tickles your nose and you breath ever so deeply the smells and sock in the moment of taking the time for yourself, and of course, your coffee!

See how Fika is different from Hygge!

I recently learned of something that goes hand in hand with another concept I am in love with, Hygge. Yet it is all about, yep you guess it, COFFEE!! It’s called Fika and it is an intentional, and romanticized coffee break.

Fika basically means a coffee break. It usually takes place in the mid-morning around 10 or maybe even around 3 p.m. If you are really lucky you might get to have a “akvallsfika” (a night time coffee break) in the evening too!!

What Fika is All About

Fika Coffee Hygge

It’s more than just a coffee break like the American’s do. It’s more of a Hygge Coffee Break. (What’s Hygge?) It is taking the time to stop what you are doing, get cozy, indulge in the little luxuries of life such a piece of cake, or cookies, heavy whipping cream and sugar in your coffee, but most of all surrounding yourself with fabulous company.

Drinking coffee is not enough with Fika, it is a Swedish Tea Time. You must have something savory or sweet to munch on. Small sandwiches, or cake. Even cinnamon rolls. As long as you are eating something while drinking and talking with people you enjoy you have accomplished Fika.

In the work place Fika is a great way to get to know your coworkers, mingle and chat. At home it is a fantastic way to reconnect with your spouse after a long day of being apart, and in the evening, it is a perfect way to recharge for the evening bedtime routine ahead, whatever that may mean for you.

To the Swedish to Fika is to go out for coffee, to mingle, to get into society. It is an ageless tradition. Children, middle aged and elderly enjoy this break together each day. It is a Swedish lifestyle. If you can’t make it to a coffee shop multiple times a day, don’t worry. You can Fika in your own way as long as you change up your environment, change up your company, and of course have a hot cup of coffee and a special treat!

Fika is a way of being mindful, it’s a way of being intentional. It’s a way of being nice to yourself and taking care of yourself. Life is busy. It can pull us in a thousand different directions each day. You would greatly benefit by adding Fika to your life. Who will it hurt if you decided to go in the coffee shop and sit at a table, putting your phone away, not bringing in your laptop, and just people watching for 15 minutes. Who will it disturb for you to take the time for yourself, just a couple minute each day to stop and enjoy. Today will be over in hours. Never to be lived again. Will you decided to add this small intentional break to your life?

Let me paint a picture for you:

You’ve just graduated from high school. Everybody and their neighbor has asked you what your plans are. Every time someone asks your stomach gets all knotted.

You don’t really know, and you go off to college anyway.

You start your classes and pick a major based on statistics. Income margins, work life balance, and maybe, just maybe; you pick something based on your personal interest, yet probably not top of your priority list.

You graduate and head off to your first job. And for the rest of your life you work.

Early mornings

Long commutes

Always answering to someone about things you try to care about.

Does any of this sound familiar? Is your life anything like this?

Most people live like this. They follow the blueprint society lays out and they go with the proverbial flow of “life.” But are they happy?

Are YOU happy?

Happiness is a tricky thing. It isn’t something that we can buy, hold, or store away for later. It isn’t something we plan for or even schedule in.

Happiness isn’t a place, or a destination. Yet, we are all always looking for it. It is our world’s eternal quest.

Have you heard that the Nordic people are some of the happiest people in the world and have been for a while now? Have you heard of the word –hygge-?

Hygge, {hue-ga} has no English translation. (See the definition)

Hygge is a state of mind, a feel in your world and atmosphere. And you need it!

Here is a list of things that would make up a hygge evening.

The first step for cultivating hygge is getting cozy.

Taking off any restricting clothing, and getting into slippers or flip-flops.

Putting on soft and soothing clothing.

Close the drapes. (Here’s how to make your home more Hygge)

Put on some slow soft, peaceful music.

Light a couple candles (really relaxing scents help too)

Hygge is all about close relationships.

Partners, spouses, children, and friends. Whomever you have bring them close and make memories!

Bake cookies or goodies and invite a friend for hot chocolate (or coffee) and a treat to catch up and chat!

Arrange a little winter get together with friends and their kids and go sledding!

Snuggle up with your loved one on the couch with big blankets and read books and listen to music!

Get the girls together for a fun DIY Spa day! Do each other’s nails, and do a massage train!

I’m not much of a “friend” person. So if you’re anything like me you don’t have a lot of friends, or they may live far away. Pets are amazing friends. A kitten, or little puppy can bring more joy than describable! A snoozing cat all snuggled and warm with you on the couch with an over-sized blanket and hot cup of your favorite beverage is just the hygge type picture to paint!

Some days are hard, some are ok, but each day, no matter how horrible, has something worth enjoying. And you can never get that day back! Once it’s gone; it’s gone. So enjoy the blue sky and sunshine, your health. If nothing else your dreams are worth enjoying!

Some days are so hard that you have to make it a point to enjoy something, and that is what the Danes are so well known for. They make it a point to E.N.J.O.Y.!

Make it a point to enjoy the things you do each day. Try to be mindful of your actions as you go through the motions of your enjoyments.

Life is too short to drink terrible coffee. Buy the coffee that you love and brew it the way you want! You can actually save money while getting a better cup of coffee too!

coffee grounds scooped

Take advantage of your work breaks. Go outside and walk, or eat on a bench. Winter is long!

Do you hate the cold weather as much as I do? Going out in the winter is not a fun thought! To help this rememebr that the right supplements can drastically change your mood through the winter and make you feel like summer 😉!

This being said; I notice that every time I step outside and breathe deeply; the fresh air hits my lungs and i instantly feel happier like energy and positivity just shot through me! And when I move around in nature (even winter nature) I am so thankful for the lift I get in my mood, my mental clarity and my productivity.

Buy a plant and try to keep it alive! (See how Vinegar can help!) I am notorious for this one. I don’t know what it is but it seems like I can’t keep a plant alive for the life of me!

That being said; there are plants that don’t need any care! So if you have my same lack of growing gifts you’re in luck! 😁 Even the sweetest little succulent plant will bring joy on a rainy day therefore brightening up your home and your mood! Get yourself some green, living, breathing plants!

Hygge isn’t something you can buy. It’s all the moments you mentally pin as enjoyable, cozy and warm, safe and friendly.

It’s an art of intentional living

Remember; Hygge is ALL ABOUT YOU!

In a world of fast pace, striving deadlines, and constant stress, you can choose to come inside yourself a little more and enjoy the one and only life you’ve been given!

So, I have a bit of a confession.

I’m sort of a neat freak. I’m undeniably “type A”. If my home is messy, unorganized, or at all out of place I tend to get stressed out and ……well angry. I lose my patience very quickly when my house is not clean. I’m not proud of that, but it’s my confession! 😁

I have a big family. Lots of little hands grabbing things and DROPPING THEM. If you are a parent you know exactly what I’m talking about.
I don’t know what the deal is, but I’ve watched my children and other people’s kids for years with this one.
They grab a toy, or clothes out of the laundry basket and then take a couple steps and drop in it on the floor as they walk away.

It baffles me. It’s like they don’t think I have anything to do but walk behind them cleaning (which I sometimes feel like I do).

Over the years I’ve put some habits and systems in place that help keep my home looking abundantly clean (for the most part) pretty much all the time.

1. Unload the Dishwasher the Night Before

I LOVE an empty dishwasher. It goes hand-in-hand with “I brought home pizza” and “I have great news”!!! I love all those words!
But, seriously; having an empty dishwasher when you go to do the dishes makes a world of difference!
If you’re like me I generally wait until the dishwasher is packed full after dinner and bedtime snack to turn it on. Resulting in having me unloading in the mornings. However, if you turn yours on after dinner, unloading it before you head to bed will jump start your day 10-fold.

2. Make the Bed AND Clean the Room

No one says this, and it always bugs me. I can make my bed and still feel yucky when I walk back in there hours later and their clothes, towels, paper work and whatever else was dragged and dropped in there. By decluttering and minimizing everything off the dressers and floors the bedroom will feel airy and fresh when you walk back in! I love having my sanctuary to go to when I just need to refocus.

3. Baskets, Baskets, Baskets!

Ok, I might have a little obsession with my baskets! I adore baskets, their versatility, their instant organization and their beauty! They make everything more elegant. I have baskets for everything from random unmatched socks, to first aid, to books and mittens! My next project is putting 2 big baskets under my bathroom sink for towels and toilet paper! So much crisp organization in one little trick! I even have baskets in my car for the front and back seat. They make for quick and easy tidy and/or removal of items form the vehicles. Comment and let me know any ideas you have for my next basket task! 😊

4. Stay In 1 Room

I have found in my many many years of cleaning that by staying in one room until it’s finished not only saves a crazy amount of time but helps with the quality of your work. Carrying around a tidy tote which I mention in a previous post 4 Genius Ways To Clean Your House Like a Professional, you can fill it with things for rooms and then carry them to that room as you go. This way you aren’t running around the house putting things away and getting side tracked and distracted.

5. Focus on Your Major Traffic Areas

This one is huge for making quick progress. Focus first on your most “lived in” areas. Places like the living room, kitchen, and mudroom. Not every room of your house needs to be clean all the time. This one is a huge relief for me and helps relieve stress. By running around and cleaning up the high traffic areas you can quickly and almost effortlessly get ready for company or just give your home a quick lift.

6. Use the 2 Minute Rule

Ever heard of this rule? The two-minute rule is if a job can be done in 2 minute or less, do it now! Don’t put it off for later. I use this one all day long. My dad said a little saying all my growing up years, “Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today.” Which I later found out is a famous saying. But no matter who coined the phrase it’s meaning is very important. Procrastination is the poison to any progress in our lives. By not letting things pile up tasks become easier and almost effortless to maintain.

7. Set a Timer for Larger Tasks

I like to set a time for when things overwhelm me. By telling myself I only have to work on it for 15 minutes I am more apt to get going and work quickly instead of dragging my feet or worse never starting! (What a child am I!) I’m always amazed at how much I get done when that timer is ticking!

8. Minimalize

About 2 Christmases ago my husband and I watched a documentary on minimalism and I was immediately attracted to it. I have found that it goes hand-in-hand with my cleaning and effortless routine. I can always tell when things have piled up a bit and I need to get rid of some things or just store some things away that aren’t being used. By minimalizing your home, you have less to pick up and put away. I truly recommend decluttering and donating anything you don’t love or use often.

9. Work in One Direction

When I’m cleaning a room (say the kitchen for instance) I work starting at one counter and just move down. I work in one general direction so that I’m not bouncing around the room. Like the staying in one room concept. I keep a fluid motion and before you know it all the counters are cleared and swiped!

10. Grace and Forgiveness

This is the hardest one for me in the moment. I must consciously remind myself that not everyday is perfect. There are days I am more exhausted than humanly possible. Kids are unpredictable creatures. Being a mom of 5 little ones there isn’t much sleep in my schedule. I’m sure you can completely relate if you are a mom to any number of children. Even 1 child who has a hard night can destroy your energy level for the next day.

I have found that my most valuable tool for keeping my house tidy and staying sane is knowing when it’s an off day and living in complete forgiveness of myself, and all the people who live here. Asking for the grace to sustain my days and remain calm cool and collected as I move through my day.

Having a mess day is okay when I tell myself it is! Sometimes mess days are the most fun days here at my house! Each day is unique, if you are having a hard day and the house is a wreck, check in within. Be true to yourself. If you have ambition to get it pulled together more power to ya’ mama! If not that’s okay too.

There is always tomorrow!

The average household ingredient, vinegar, is thought of mostly as a salad or cooking ingredient. But did you know the crazy things this simple product can do? From gardens to house, from germs to food, this amazing ingredient can transform the way you clean and hack your life! Here is a list of the top 15 things vinegar can do to change your world!

  1. Use Vinegar in Your Garden.

By putting white or apple cider vinegar straight on your weeds, it will pull the moister out of the leaves and therefore kill the weeds! Stop wasting money on toxic and hazardously expensive products in your garden! All you need is basic vinegar and you won’t ever have to pull another weed again! Careful though, vinegar doesn’t know the weed from the tomato, be careful which plant you spray.

  1. Getting Rid of Ants.

Ants hate the smell of vinegar. Mix equal parts white or apple cider vinegar and water and spray the ant hill in your yard and garden or around your doors and windows. You could even bring it on your next picnic or outing to the beach! This mixture will have them marching in the opposite direction!

  1. Keeping Fresh Cut Flowers Fresh.

Add 2 tablespoons vinegar and 1 tsp of sugar in the vase and your beautiful cut flowers will stay fresh much longer. No more waking up to drooping petals 2 days after you bring home that gorgeous bouquet of fresh roses.

  1. Feeding Your Plants.

There are tons of plants that need more acidic soil. By mixing 1 gallon of water and a cup of white vinegar and spraying it AROUND THE GROUND of the plant (remember vinegar will kill plants and weeds) you can add acidity to the plants and help them flourish like crazy. Some plants that require more acidity are hydrangea, blueberries, Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Holly, Gardenias

  1. Keeping Animals Out.

There are always pests in the garden. But most of them can’t stand the smell of vinegar. Drench some rags or towels in white vinegar and lay them around your garden. This will have the animals running away, and possibly you too! (unless you like the smell of vinegar!) Remember to re drench the towels and rags weekly to keep the smell potent and doing its job.

  1. Disinfect the Toilet.

Instead of buying overpriced and toxic cleaning products all you need is the natural white vinegar. Use vinegar and baking soda in your toilet. The ratio is up to you and how gross a job you are tackling. Heat the white vinegar up to 104 degrees and add baking soda. For every 7 oz of vinegar you will need 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Pour the mixture into the toilet tank leave it for several hours. For best results do it at night so it can sit all night without being flushed.

  • Vinegar can dissolve lime scale and melts off rust
  • It removes odors
  • It kills bacteria

  1. Clean Kitchen Garbage Disposal.

By freezing vinegar in an ice cube tray and throw the cubes into the disposal. Turn it on. This will clean and sharpen your blades.

      8. Dishwasher

Removing the filters and wiping under the door area is a must. These places can get slimy, and moldy. After you have swiped and removed the filters pour white vinegar into a mug and put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher, pour about 2 cups of baking soda into the bottom of the dishwasher and run on a high temp wash cycle. Your beloved appliance will be sparkling and smelling like new in no time. And it will last a lot longer.

  1. Clogged Drains.

1 cup of baking soda and pour vinegar down the drain. You will see a foaming bubbling explosion, but it will melt and dissolve the clog. After some of the bubbling has calmed down pour a pan of boiling water down the drain to wash it all away. (you may need to do this several times depending on the severity of the clog)

  1. Laundry.

By pouring a cup or two of white vinegar into your load of laundry you can get rid of musty, smelly odors in your socks, workout clothes, towels, and washcloths. It also strips the clothes of lint creating less static.

  1. Removing Stickers.

By soaking a sponge in vinegar and microwaving it for 30 seconds you can press the sponge onto the sticker and the sticker will magically wipe off! No more scrapping or breaking your nails!

  1. Freshen Up the Fridge.

Clean the shelves and walls with a solution of ½ vinegar and ½ water and your fridge will be sparkling and smelling fresh and clean. Be careful not to use chemicals in the fridge or you might cause your food to taste the same way the product smells. Here are a couple other vinegar based cleaners.

  1. Coffee and Tea Stains

By using a cloth soaked in vinegar you can polish the coffee and tea stains out of your mugs and tea cups. Making them sparkle like new all over again.

  1. Clean a Coffee Pot.

By filling the water basin with white vinegar, you can clean mold and calcium build up out of your drip pots and Keurig’s. No more moldy cups of coffee! Gross! You can learn how to clean your coffee pot here.

  1. Restore Old Socks.

You can restore your old socks by soaking them in hot vinegar. Getting all the stains and smells out of your white socks. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to a pan of water and bring to boil. Let them soak overnight and the stains will be gone like magic in the morning. You can also add a couple drops of your favorite essential oils to add the freshened smell.

How to Lose Weight Without Dieting (Especially If You Weigh Over 200 lbs)

This post contains affiliate links. See Affiliate Disclaimer

Have you tried every diet under the sun? If you weigh over 200 pounds and you feel like you are at your wits end with trying to lose weight, and having it backfire on you over and over again, then this article is for you.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Even though you set goals you never see any progress?
  • You watch desperately as the scale creeps up farther and father and you feel helpless.
  • Your greatest wish is to break free from the chains of discomforting fat, achieve your greatest dream, fit into clothes you love, and be able to move with ease and grace.

All of this is possible for you. It doesn’t feel that way, but I promise it is.

Have you heard? The game of weight loss has changed! Did anyone tell you?

1st things 1st. I want you to take everything you think you know about weight loss and throw it out the window!!!

Okay, now let’s start with that fresh slate.

I’m going to take you through a new and wonderful blueprint that you can follow and see great results. This blueprint has been proven, scientifically and by many people who have had hundreds of pounds fall off.

Gone are the days of starving and endless workouts at a humid sticky gym. Gone are the days of deprivation from everything you love and never seeing more than 5 pounds drop off the scale.

Are you ready? It is all EMOTIONAL

Your body wants to be what it is. It doesn’t care what the latest trend is. Your body keeps you safe no matter what that happens to be for you.

Here is a list of actionable steps to encourage your body to want to be thin.

  1. Stop Cardio!

That feels as good to type as it does to read! Exercise isn’t for weight loss it’s for toning and muscle building. With over 50 lbs or more to lose all the cardio in the world won’t help you lose weight. All its going to do is stress your joints and discourage your journey.

Recent studies done by Current Biology have shown that exercise plays absolutely no major role in weight loss what-so-ever.

This is not to say that exercise isn’t healthy or beneficial. On the contrary everyone should move their bodies and get some form of exercise each and every day. However, working out for endless hours putting strain on your joints and bones is doing nothing in the way of weight loss. So put it off for now.

  1. Leptin Resistance

Hormones play an enormous factor in weight loss and weight gain for that matter.

Leptin is a hormone that regulates hunger and energy. It sends 2 messages to the brain.

  1. I’m hungry we need to eat soon
  2. We have eaten enough and have energy to burn let’s move!

Where has this hormone been hiding you ask? Unfortunately, leptin is silenced when there is insulin resistance in the body.

There is a huge link to leptin resistance and obesity

This is why we focus on diet first, exercise comes after.

By eating lots of lean proteins, adding live foods to every meal, and good probiotics you will cure leptin resistance and heal your body deficiencies.

  1. Insulin Resistance

We know what you’re thinking; of course, here we go with hating on carbs!

But here’s the deal. 90% of all people who weight over 200 lbs are insulin resistant. So, it’s pretty likely you are too.

This makes every carbohydrate you eat work in the opposite effect and instead of giving you energy, it creates glue in your system.

According to Dr. Berg this can lead to a lot of other pretty nasty problems like diabetes and metabolic resistance.

It’s time to cut carbs.

A good month or 2 without carbohydrates will help your body in repairing itself.

You can start to add them back in slowly as you see progress and your hormones have leveled out. By detoxing the body and resetting it you can greatly improve your health in drastic ways.

  1. Leaky Gut

Another thing you are more than likely experiencing if you weight over 200 lbs is leaky gut syndrome.

This sounds disgusting and scary. But don’t worry.

All it means is that your body isn’t processing and absorbing the nutrients from the food that you need.

                It’s super simple to cure.

All you need is to cut all processed sugars and grains, and add a strong quality probiotic.

That’s it! Super simple!

  1. Walk, Walk, Walk

The power of walking has been pushed to the wayside as other trends have taken flight. But walking has always been the back bone of any thin, fit, and healthy society. It has also been the main form of transportation since the beginning of time.

It is surprisingly powerful for weight loss

There are many benefits to walking such as helping with high cholesterol, mood, creativity, posture. However, if you are over 200 lbs. walking is a light and comforting way to move your blood, and muscles without hurting yourself.

  1. Diets Don’t Work

You are an emotional being. You have past programs, you have a personal blueprint that is unique to you and only you. There is an underlying reason you can’t lose weight and it’s mainly emotional.

Our entire lives are made up of how we feel about things. What we like, don’t like. How we were treated as children, or recently.

Your weight loss journey isn’t scientific, it’s emotional just as you are.

Your body will not let you lose weight if it doesn’t want to be thin.

This is becoming more and more widely accepted as truth among doctors and scientist as thousands of people are seeing success with this concept.

Jon Gabriel is a pioneer in this thought process and has helped countless people lose hundreds of pounds.

After a lifetime of searching for the weight loss key, Jon discovered that diet is not the answer. He proceeded on his own personal search for what was the answer and succeeded at melting 220 lbs without diet or surgery. He just recently celebrated 10 years of successfully keeping it off and continues to teach people the same concept.

You can read more about him here.

The bigger you are the more emotional blockages you have, preventing you from letting go of the weight.

Consider seriously looking into this. You have nothing to lose accept massive amounts of cumbersome weight.

I truly wish you a successful journey on your path to weight loss.

It is difficult to find quality information for people who have more weight to lose than the average 20 pounds. If you have any questions or concerns I would be more than happy to help direct you to finding proper answers.

What is Hygge?

I sometimes wonder why things become a trend. Personally, I stay away from anything trendy. I have this weird thing where if someone talks to me about something I already love, wears a shirt I own, loves a movie I love….. I am no longer interested in it. Even if I really love that person! It’s nothing against them it is just that I don’t like to just follow the trend or do what everyone else is doing. I guess I just have to be different. There is something deep within me that screams to be different, unique, one of a kind! More on that in another post!

But with Hygge even though every blogger and their neighbors are talking about it I’m still in love with the concept.

If you haven’t heard of Hygge it is a Danish term that loosely means “the art of intentional and cozy living.”

Life tends to have treads, ups and downs, ebb and flow. Western society tends to be on an uphill trend of stress, never-ending schedules, dead-lines and responsibilities. Throw in personal goals, physical expectations, health restrictions, social obligations, it only makes sense that Hygge would resonate so strongly with the Western World.

So how can we, in a society of keeping ourselves blindingly busy, make room for Hygge?

Hygge doesn’t just happen, it is created.

Here is a quick list of things that would help your home be more Hygge:

  1. Candles

  2. Warm cozy slippers

  3. Over-sized thick blankets

  4. Shawls or sweaters

  5. Hot cups of coffee, tea or cocoa

  6. Freshly baked cakes, muffins, or scones

  7. Crackling fires (electric if that’s all you have)

  8. Books,

  9. Soft classical music

  10. Soft yellow lights

These elements all make for a warm and relaxing environment but more importantly; Hygge is about taking a moment off from the busyness of life.  I like to think of it as a type of “Viking Meditation”. Without the sitting with your eyes closed! Hygge is all about the senses. Indulging in each one of them all while feeling safe and comfy!

I’ve heard said before that Hygge isn’t something that you can learn, it’s just something you do. You have no doubt experienced Hygge more than several times in your life. But being aware that it is there, that it is something to strive for and will make your life happier and more intentional.

Hygge means to make your surrounding comfortable which can venture into every and any area in our lives.

We, our body and soul; go everywhere we go. Just as your attitude, (good or bad), goes with you each day so can an attitude of hygge.

For instance:

Most mornings you wake up, maybe hit the snooze alarm once or twice. Finally rolling out of bed you quickly shower, get ready, maybe grab a to-go cup of coffee and a granola bar if you’re lucky! And you get in the car and go to work rushing all the while to get there on time. Sound familiar?

How about try this:

Instead of hitting the snooze you get up, and stretch. Putting on a special (intentional) bathrobe, you venture to the bathroom for a hot lavender oil infused bath. Lighting candles and putting on soft yet energizing music. You get ready for work by lotioning with organic coconut oil.

Brew yourself a hot cup of coffee and enjoy it with candles, and your partner. Get out your daily journal and list the things your grateful for, your schedule and goals for the day. Do this with your partner so that you are in sync and connected throughout the day.

As you get in your car to start the commute to work or as you get ready for the kids to wake up, turn on your favorite motivational music, say some affirmations, or pray.

Ignore the news and the negative that the world is always dishing out in generous amounts.

This is a version of a hygge morning. It’s cozy, it’s intentional, its healthy, its inspiring. Hygge isn’t just for cold evenings, it can be a life you choose to live. Summer mornings, spring afternoons, winter evenings hygge is there you just have to find it!

What will you do today to add some hygge to your life?!

Go live life intentionally!

Baking Soda Mask That Will Completely Transform Your Skin

The fountain of youth is a timeless quest!

At any age girls are looking to be beautiful. I have a 3-year-old daughter who spends her days dressing up, requesting new nail polish colors and asking me over and over “how do I look mom?”

I know personally I watch those elegant old-fashioned movies with woman who look flawless and wonder how I can look so beautiful and what is their secret.

You must wonder sometimes at the complexity of the beauty industry today and the lack of female flawlessness. Acne, swelling, scars, blemishes, and imperfections are a part of life. I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel like the beauty isles today are helping me look my best.

That’s why I decided to go back to the vintage days of simplicity! Our good old friend baking soda! This is currently the only face wash I use as it has worked much better than any product I have found out there!

Who knew!!

Baking soda is a great exfoliating agent. It gently scrubs your face, removing dead cells and skin as well as bacteria and excess oils. It is also a PH balancer which is crucial to maintain clear even skin.

DIY Baking Soda Face Mask:

Pour 1/3 cup baking soda into a bowl

Mix with the juice from half a lemon

2 tablespoons tea tree oil.

Apply generously to your face, wait for 10 minutes, then rinse.

Pat your skin dry and then moisturize.

This can be done every day with a small amount of baking soda, or once or twice a week if you use a higher ratio. Apply organic coconut or olive oil or a light moisturizer.

I use an amazing little trick of applying an apple cider vinegar toner (1 part raw apple cider vinegar, 1 part water) after the wash that tightens and enhances the skin and gives a kind of airbrushed glow to it. So simple! Just apply it gently (I apply with a cotton ball) like any other facial toner!

I would love to hear how this natural and timeless face mask transformed your beautiful face!

Let me and others know in the comments below!

11 Steps to a more organized year

I’ve been doing a lot of goal setting/researching lately on how to make this year the best one yet! Life gets in the way of our happiness a lot, at least in my world. Things seem to go a million miles an hour and at the end of the day it was all just a busy blur…I decided to try to change that this year by “smelling the roses” a little bit more. Making life easier and more simplified in a practical way. Here are 11 awesome ideas that I am trying to incorporate into my life and maybe they will help you out in your struggle for more daily peace:

Make it a habit and personal rule to keep your house clean all the time. This can be a challenge specially if you have children in the house. But by getting rid of the clutter on the counter tops, bathroom vanities and end tables you will see a dramatic increase in the visual clutter and stress the room has. Make it a point to get rid of anything not regularly used or find a home out of sight for it.  Think outside the box when it comes to finding homes in small spaces. Tops of linin closet shelves, you know the ones that you can’t reach without a stool, are a great use for vases, pans that you only use once a year, bulk dry goods, or toiletries.

Don’t under estimate the power of under bed storage. Thin flat bins are great for sliding under the bed with extra clothes, wrapping paper, even extra towels and wash clothes.

Becoming debt free is a mental decluttering. By eliminating the extra stress of on time payments, or even finding the money for the monthly payment you eliminate the extra paperwork. You also get to keep your hard-earned money allowing you the opportunity for financial growth and freedom.

This one is hard for many people. There is always an underlining sense of guilt when it comes to saying “no” to someone. The fine art of using the word “no” could not be a more powerful tool in your vocabulary. By learning what is a healthy amount of time and activities spent out of the house, or entertaining others in your home, you can live a healthier dynamic family life. You and your personal time is extremely important to your health and mental well-being. Make time for yourself. Learn the fine art of the powerful word “no.”

We all know someone in our circle of acquaintances that is plain toxic.

For some it may be a co-worker or boss. For others a parent or sibling, and for others they be in a romantic relationship with someone who’s personality and selfishness is purely toxic.

Whomever it is that makes you suffer in some way or another it is time to be strong and start putting some distance between you.

Sometimes you absolutely can’t get away from them. If it’s your parent or boss, you may be stuck for a long time with the unhealthy dynamic of toxic person. However, if you have friends that you are starting to see are unhealthy to be around, negative, bad influences, selfish, and soul sucking it is time to cut the cord.

If it is the former, and you are in a relationship with someone either professionally or maternally than you may need to get some help. Standing up for yourself, setting distance and boundaries can be nearly impossible when it comes to narcissistic people, but if you stay strong and above all positive you will see changes I promise.

This one seems superficial, yet there is a great relief in knowing what you are wearing when you get out of bed. Having so many items that you don’t know what you have let alone what to wear is an overwhelming stress added task in our daily lives. It requires more time in getting ready for the day. It requires for time shopping because we don’t even know what we have. It requires for work in washing things we’ve worn.

By slimming down your clothes, choosing only what you love, and what is functional with other things, you free up space, time, and energy each day. Simplify your morning and over all your daily life.

Setting goals each day that you need to get done help you to always know what you are doing and where you are going next. It’s like planning out a vacation, you have an itinerary and a location to which you are traveling. Each day is a similar concept. By planning out your day you set up an itinerary for yourself, mapping out your accomplishments one by one.

This one feels daunting especially after the holidays and into a new year. It can be a real undertaking, but it is one of the most freeing feelings to bring bags and bags of donations to the thrift store! Things you don’t need, haven’t used in forever, or ever, and things you can replace with new things that have multiple functions! Get creative and research for gadgets that can replace several things. Get intentional about your belongings, if you don’t need it, use it and love it, it’s got to go!

We spend so many hours on social media as a society. But many studies have shown that people can get anxiety from too many hours of social media. This is because of the lack of sustaining fulfillment that social media brings.

Why not make a conscience choice to power down every day at some point and be present. Engage with friends and family and take care of yourself physically. Other people’s moment to moment play by play is an unnecessary stress on your life.

Getting outside each day is extremely beneficial to your health and well-being. There is nothing more simple and relaxing than stepping into nature. The air is clean and fresh, the sounds are natural and calming, the sun is loaded with vitamins and minerals. Simplify your life by touching nature each day.

A great way to organize you bills and payments is to put them on auto-pay. Most people get stressed out thinking about payments and late fees. By putting your bills on auto pay and getting direct deposit, you can remove all the worry and stress that organizing bills and payments can bring.

Becoming disciplined is the key rule to simplifying and organization. By practicing self-discipline, you can avoid so many pit-falls. One of the best ways to practice this is to practice the 2-week rule.

If there is something that you want to purchase but it isn’t a necessity, wait 2 weeks. By the end of the 2 weeks you will probably have forgotten all about it or discovered that you didn’t want it in the first place.  Living above our means is one of the biggest stresses of life. Live below your means at all cost, no matter how temping and you will have a simpler and less stressful life.
