Do you ever have those days (typically Monday’s) that all you want is to call the local cleaning service and forget the long list of endless chores on your clean to-do list?
I know I do!
Since that isn’t really a possibility for me in my life right now, I set out to figure out how they do it so fast, and efficiently.
Here’s what I found.
Professional Organizers use an acronym: S.P.A.C.E. SPACE
Sort. Keep. Toss. Donate
Purge. Try to weed out another 10%20%. We wear 10% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. Everything you keep is more to take care of.
Assign. Make a home for everything. Keep your things accessible. Have things that you don’t need all the time harder to get, and the stuff that you need to get to often right down in front.
Containers. Having containers for everything makes space in closets and makes more organization in the chaos. Labeling your containers will help you know where everything’s home is!
Evaluate. After everything is said and done, you will need to go back and reevaluate things every now and again. Evaluate if things are working in the place they were put or if you need more organization than previously planned.
Make a daily or weekly cleaning schedule.
Do it every day. No matter what. Make up your own routine. Adding to it whatever it is that you want. Such as a daily load of laundry, dishes, swiping counters. Do a little bit every day. This way no house cleaning chore will ever take you more than 15 minutes.
Have the right tools for the job.
You couldn’t plow a field with a rotter tiller, and you wouldn’t whip heavy whipping cream with a teaspoon!
By having the right tools, your job will become that much easier. The right kind of vacuums, the right kind of cleaners, the right kind of mop, baskets, totes and hampers.
For instance the Shark Navigator Freestyle Cordless Stick Vacuum. This is my all time favorite little vacuum. I whip around my kitchen and dining room in a second with this little cordless vac. And IT’S CORDLESS!!!
The Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop is an awesome tool that is fun to use and helps you get the job done efficiently and quickly. More quality than the Swiffer, if gets things cleaner.
Designate a Cleaning Tote
My final tip for cleaning like a professional is to start by going through each room with a cleaning tote, and picking up everything that doesn’t belong in that room. As you move from room to room you can then distribute the things that you have picked up along the way. Making your flow throughout your chores easy and flawless. Where as you would normally pick 1 or 2 things up at a time and go put them away, or create messes in other rooms by bringing items to the room they belong but not actually putting them away; you kill 2 birds with 1 stone by focusing on 1 thing at a time. This fantastic “Tidy Tote” from Amazon, is fantastic. It’s affordable and handy for any products or tools.
I hope you’re able to take away something today that helps you whip around your house faster and more efficiently!
As always, I’d love to hear how you keep you house tidy, and organized! Leave a comment below!
